MBS Impact Modifier

Key Application Characteristics of MBS in PVC:

Excellent transparency: Due to the similar refractive index of MBS and PVC, it is an irreplaceable modifier for transparent rigid PVC products.
High toughening effect: When added in amounts of 10-17 PHR, it can increase the impact strength of PVC by 6-15 times, offering superior toughening compared to CPE, EVA, etc.
Improved processing performance: MBS promotes the decomposition and bonding of PVC particles during plasticization, thus promoting gelation and shortening processing time.
Good low-temperature performance: Provides PVC products with good low-temperature impact toughness.

Main Application 

PVC transparent sheets/films: Such as pharmaceutical packaging, blister packaging, packaging boxes, and folding boxes.
Transparent bottles and containers: Beverage bottles, cosmetic containers.
PVC profiles and pipes: Used in interior structures, requiring high impact resistance PVC fittings.
Others: Credit card substrates, medical devices, etc.

Precautions for Use:

Poor weather resistance: Due to the butadiene content in MBS, its structure is easily decomposed by light, making it unsuitable for outdoor products exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods (such as door and window profiles).
Mainly for indoor use: Usually used in indoor applications requiring transparency and high toughness.
Addition amount: The usual addition amount is 10-17 PHR. If it exceeds 30 PHR, it will lead to a decrease in the impact strength of PVC.
Suggestions for combined use: Due to the relatively high price and average heat resistance of MBS, it is often used in combination with other impact modifiers such as CPE and EVA to reduce costs or adjust performance.
